Some say you need to have some basic carpentry skills in order to tackle one of the do it yourself shed kits. But even if you don’t have any carpentry skills, if you can read a set of shed plans and the step by step instructions, you should have no problem with building your own shed. You can always entice a couple of your friends to help you out. Bottom line is, if you need extra storage space and are on a limited budget, selecting one of the do it yourself shed kits is a great option.
Shed kits come in a variety of sizes and they differ in what is included. Some only come with all the necessary hardware, such as brackets, screws, hinges, etc., so there is no guessing at what hardware to buy. These shed kits also come with a complete list of materials you will need to purchase and step by step instructions.
The other type of do it yourself shed kits come with all of the above and all the wood precut to the needed lengths and angles. This type of shed kit will save you a lot of time and frustration. Once you receive the kit, you should be able to jump right in and start constructing your new backyard shed.
None of the kits I have seen come with the wood prefinished though, you will have to paint or stain the shed once you have it constructed. I always recommend a good quality primer and exterior paint to protect your investment from the outdoor elements. Using a good quality paint will last longer than an econmy brand paint and will be easier to keep clean.
Of course, it you do have some carpenter skills and like do it yourself kind of projects, then using one of the do it yourself shed kits will be an easy project for you to complete.
