Wood Storage Shed Plans

My wife loves great storage space and she checked out the house we were considering very carefully to make sure there was plenty available.  Or at least that’s what she though initially.

Well it was unfortunate that she didn’t pay as much attention to the available storage space in the garage because it didn’t take long for us to realize that we simply did not have enough space for all our lawn and garden equipment and tools, power tools, etc.  Well I decided that the only way to solve our overcrowding problem in the garage was to construct a backyard storage shed.

I decided that it was extremely important for me to be able to easily get at any of the items I would place in the storage shed whenever I wanted to.  I simply did not want to have to climb over items or pull out half my gear to get at the one item I was looking for.  So I made sure to incorporate a set of double doors into my design.  For extra measure, I added another set in the rear.

This not only added to the expense but it also required a longer build time.  However it was well worth the extra effort and expense even if I did have to purchase another lock!  At the same time it did makes things a bit more complicated in terms of where I could locate my shed since I needed good access to both sides of the structure.  A lot of people normally back up their shed to the edge of their property.  However in this case I simply turned it sideways and things worked out fine.

And if at all possible, try to position the shed on ground which is as flat as possible to avoid having to adjust with spacers, etc.  Alternatively you may want to consider creating a solid foundation from poured concrete or sunk footers.  This may require a permit so be sure to check your local building regulations.

Now that my shed is complete I can say that it was one of the best investments I’ve made outside of the house (except for maybe the hot tub!).  It has given me a lot more room in my garage and enables me to access my things quickly and easily.
