Unfortunately where we live, we have no garage and so anything that we have for the garden or tools or engine parts needs to be left outside under the eaves or stored at a neighbors place in their garage. Oddly enough, that neighbor suggested building a storage shed, to keep all of that stuff in, including the old engine we had at his place.

We told him that we could not afford to buy one as they are quite expensive and my husband did not feel confident enough to make one himself. He had injured his foot building several years ago and so was reluctant to do anything that involved building.

The neighbor told us that you could actually get wood shed building kits that have everything you need, to build it from start to finish. Some even come with the wood all precut and ready to assemble.

My husband was still hesitant. He had been stung by those “easy to assemble” items before and they were by no means easy at all. I could tell he was remembering the bike he had to put together for one of the girl’s birthdays. I went out it was so bad, and arrived back home after he had finally put it together.

Our friendly had an ulterior motive, I think, because then he offered to help my husband put it together if he wanted to try it.

We decided that we would have a look and see what was involved and how much they cost. My husband checked online as well as at our local store, looking for wood shed building kits, but in the end, he ordered one through the internet. Within a week it arrived, just before the weekend, which happened to be a lovely day.

Everything was included in the kit and after just a couple of weekends with the neighbor helping the shed was finished. He declined to help my husband stain it, but cheerfully brought the engine back around and happily placed it in the brand new shed.

My husband was a dab hand at painting and staining as he had done his entire house where he lived prior to our marriage, so the shed was looking very fresh and attractive when he was done.

My husband looked at me with a huge grin on his face when he finally finished the shed and had compared the cost of our lovely new shed with a prebuilt shed. He gleefully told me that we had saved hundreds of dollars by him making it.

After all his reluctance about putting together a wood shed building kit, my husband was very proud of his efforts and we now had a lovely new storage unit for all our outdoor tools and equipment.
